A compliance officer's guide to Dubai FinTech Summit

Updated: 4 minutes ago
Dubai FinTech Summit returns on 2 and 3 November at Madinat Jumeirah. Organised by DIFC as the anchor event of Dubai Future Finance Week, it is one of the largest gatherings of financial services leaders, investors and regulators in the region. The 2025 edition drew more than 9,200 participants from 118 countries, with over 300 speakers across 125 sessions and more than 50 regulators and government authorities.
There is no theme called compliance. But almost every conversation on the agenda ends up at the compliance team's desk: a new product, a new market, a new model or a new asset class all arrive with obligations someone has to own. Two days is not long, so here is how to spend them well.
Before you go
Pick the two or three questions your team is working on this quarter. A return that is due, an inspection coming up, a new licence or a new product line. Walk in with those, and judge every session and every stand by whether it helps you answer them.
Book your meetings early. The good conversations at an event this size happen in 20-minute slots that fill up in the week before.
The themes worth your time
DFS 2026 runs across eight themes. These five are where compliance questions sit closest to the surface.
AI, data and decisioning. Expect a lot of talk about AI that triages alerts, scores risk and drafts decisions. The question to ask: when the AI makes a call, who owns the outcome, and could you show a regulator what it saw and why it decided?
Digital assets and tokenisation. For firms supervised by VARA or operating digital asset activity in DIFC or ADGM, the pace is the challenge: markets that never close, and alert queues that never empty. The question to ask: how do firms keep review and sign-off moving at that speed without the record falling behind?
Payments, cross-border corridors and embedded finance. Every new corridor and partner adds screening, monitoring and due diligence across jurisdictions. The question to ask: when a payment crosses three jurisdictions, whose rules does the review follow, and where is the evidence kept?
Private capital and WealthTech. Many new DFSA and FSRA licences sit in this space. The question to ask: what has to be running on day one of a licence, and how long did it take the speakers' own firms to get there?
Future-proofing finance. This is where resilience, governance and the long view meet. The question to ask: which obligations will grow fastest over the next three years, and what has to change in how compliance teams work to keep up?
Insurance and risk, sustainability and ESG finance, and the start-up and investor marketplace complete the programme, and each carries its own obligations if it touches your business.
On the exhibition floor
The exhibition floor at DFS is where you will meet the vendors, and plenty of them will say they solve compliance. Five questions separate a tool you can rely on from one you will have to explain away:
Does it cover the whole job, or one step of it? Onboarding, screening, monitoring, obligations and governance are connected. A tool that handles one of them well can still leave the others in spreadsheets.
Where does the decision live? Finding a match is the easy part. Ask to see who reviewed it, who signed it off and the evidence they relied on.
Does it work alongside what you already use? Replacing every system at once is rarely realistic.
Who built it? A platform shaped by people who run compliance day to day looks different from one built from the outside.
What does the record look like a year later? Pick any case and ask to see it as an inspector would.
Regulators in the room
With dozens of regulators and authorities attending, DFS is one of the few places where you can hear supervisors' priorities first-hand in a single day. Listen for the themes they repeat: they tend to become the questions you are asked at the next inspection.
After the event
Write down the three things you heard that change something for your team, while they are fresh. Share them in your next team meeting, and follow up on the one or two conversations worth continuing. The value of two days at DFS shows up in the month after, not on the floor.
Where azakaw fits
azakaw is one platform for compliance, from client onboarding and screening to monitoring, obligations and internal governance, with every review and decision recorded as the work happens. It comes out of j. awan & partners, with more than 500 licence applications delivered.
That work has now been assessed independently. azakaw has been recognised in the Chartis RiskTech KYC Data and Solutions 2026 Quadrant Report, with a placement in Point Solutions. Chartis Research is an independent research and advisory firm, and the report assesses KYC providers from across the global market. Chartis describes Point Solutions providers as those that focus on "solving specific risk management problems with domain-specific software applications and technologies", and notes that their "deep focus on a relatively narrow area generates thought leadership and intellectual capital".

For the firms that rely on azakaw, the recognition is independent validation of what we do every day: assessed against providers from around the world, and held to a global standard.
For regulated firms looking for a compliance operating system, it offers something a sales pitch can't: an independent assessment to weigh alongside the questions in this guide, before they decide who to trust with their compliance.
